2/29/2024 0 Comments System shock reboot, 2016![]() ![]() ![]() I've taken a few close-as-I-can-get-'em screenshots of both System Shock Reboot and GOG's System Shock Enhanced (whose changes are only really on the user interface and compatibility side of things), demonstrating how meticulous Reboot's recreation of Shock 1's first level is. When they say 'reimagining', just how much similarity and how much change does that actually mean? It's compare and contrast time, chums. That's another day's concern, though: right now, let's talk about the free alpha demo released to promote System Shock Reboot's Kickstarter. It's just poor old System Shock 2 that's left in the cold, as EA jealously guard the rights to the sci-horror series' most acclaimed instalment. First System Shock Enhanced, then a Warren Spector-augmented System Shock 3, and now System Shock Reboot, a total remastering of the first game. According to the FAQ, Night Dive is also “open to other platforms in the future”.Suddenly, we have an embarrassment of System Shock riches. Showing they’ve got what it takes, Night Dive has also dropped a playable, proof of concept demo on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store, that “represents the look and feel that we want to achieve with the final version we’ll deliver to you”.Īssuming the Kickstarter campaign makes its cash, the game is expected to release for PC and Xbox One in December 2017, with additional releases on OSX and Linux subject to stretch goal targets. Pledges of $5000 and $10,000 include a custom, System Shockified Razer Blade gaming laptop, and at press time, the bank is already over a third up, with 29 days left on the clock.ĭescribed in the blurb as a “complete remake of the genre defining classic from 1994”, the project scope includes updated visuals, music, controls and UI, and even new voice work by original SHODAN, Terri Brosius. Night Dive Studios has pushed its much hyped System Shock reboot onto Kickstarter, with a $900,000 bank to cram full of nostalgic gimme-gimme-gimme munnies. ![]()
